China Dominates Global LCD Production with Over 70% Market Share

According to the latest data from Omdia, a significant shift has occurred in the global liquid crystal display (LCD) production landscape in 20XX, with Chinese manufacturers now accounting for over 70% of the market share, firmly establishing China's leadership in the global LCD industry. Among them, BOE Technology Group (BOE) holds the top position globally with a 28% market share, thanks to its continuous expansion of 8.5G and 10.5G production lines. Followed closely by TCL CSOT (TCL Technology Group Corporation), which holds a 16% share, the two Chinese giants together account for nearly 45% of the global capacity.

This trend is underpinned by Chinese panel makers' relentless investments in technological advancements and capacity expansion over the past decade. By constructing high-generation production lines (such as 8.6G and 10.5G lines), they have rapidly captured market share while South Korea's two major players, Samsung and LG Display, have gradually exited the LCD sector due to profit pressures, shifting their focus to OLED and QD-OLED technologies. Currently, Chinese manufacturers not only maintain a significant cost advantage but have also further consolidated their market position through technological upgrades, such as Mini-LED backlighting and high-refresh-rate panels.

Omdia analysts point out that while the global LCD capacity is expected to stabilize in the future, Chinese manufacturers' leading position is unlikely to be challenged in the short term. However, they caution about the risks associated with technological iteration. In contrast, next-generation display technologies (such as Micro-LED and OLED) are poised to become the new battleground for competition.
